The Conflict Audible

For many of us, reading the Conflict of the Ages series can seem like a pretty big undertaking, especially if we don’t yet understand the context of the books or their significance. Why should we read them? And how should we read them? And what will we get from it?

We’re exploring these questions through a year-long podcast. We’ll get into the history of the series, the content of the individual books, and explore stories of how they’ve helped shape the story of the Seventh-day Adventist church and its members.

If this sounds interesting to you, then we invite you to listen and subscribe to The Conflict Audible: a show about Ellen G. White’s Conflict of the Ages series.

Errancies

While we’re working hard to stay on top of our facts, we’re going to keep track of all the changes, mistakes, and errors we make on the show. Sometimes updated episodes take a while to refresh across different podcasts services, so you may notice that you’re still hearing an old version.

+ Trailer

Yes, we already got a few things wrong in the trailer 😅. These have all been updated, but the updated file may still a while to show up on some services.

  • We incorrectly stated that Ellen was 29 when she had her 1858 Great Controversy version, when in fact she was 30.
  • We incorrectly stated that the title of the book she wrote was Spiritual Gifts Volume 1. It was later called that, but when it was first released there was no “volume 1” attached to the title.
  • Ivan had a pun in here about these books being “very controversial,” but it was delivered extremely deadpan and was therefore confusing. We have removed it so as to not be confusing. We want to be clever, but not at the expensive of clarity. We will certainly try to work this pun into later episodes more successfully, because it’s a really good pun and Ivan is really proud of it.
  • We had what we thought was a funny bit where we listed a bunch of experts we were hoping to talk to, but it felt slightly extortiony to name them. We also failed to mention the other kinds of people we want to speak with, so we revised that bit as well.

+ A Panoramic View

  • We stated the incorrect date of publication for The Captivity and Restoration of Israel—later titled Prophets and Kings—. We said that it was published in 1917, when in fact it was published in 1916. We have since updated the episode to reflect the correct date. Kevin Morgan (one of our guests on episode 4) first pointed this out to us, and we also ended up going through the publication of this depth on Episode 5 with our guest Jerry Moon.

+ Volume 1: Patriarchs and Prophets

  • We mispelled Martin’s last name wrong in literally every place we had it written. It has now been corrected. Thankfully, typos aren’t noticeable in audio, but still, we felt the need to note our mistake.

+ Giving Credit

  • We said that Jud Lake’s book, Ellen White Under Fire came out in 2012, when in fact it came out in 2010. This has been corrected.

+ Forgotten Minutes

  • We said that there were 55 people at the larger 1919 Bible Conference. There were actually 65. We’re working on correcting that.
